About

The Purpose

On DoublePlusHuman.com I present what I believe to be a fairly unique perspective on self improvement, personal freedom and consequential social change, in form of articles and multimedia both originally published here and links to selected content elsewhere.

I desire to inspire you to think about yourself and people around you in new light, to discover what it means to be you and what is your purpose, to probe the outer limits of your personal power. I want me and you to be DoublePlusHuman - individuals who are truly free from everything that limits our potential and causes disharmony: self-contradictory ideas, coercion by yourself and other people and superstition.

The Premise

The premise is that to be "only human" is not a liability, not something to be solely associated with such negative things as imperfection, failure, violence and fraud and that the sociological, philosophical and technological advances human beings have achieved are merely scratching the surface of what is possible.

To celebrate and promote humanness rather than denigrate it and constantly treat it as source of threats that needs to be controlled and repressed is of utmost importance if we are to evolve the noble side of ourselves. The universe is harmonious because it is internally consistent. Nothing in the universe denies its nature. Neither should human beings. Repressing who we are shall lead us to our own destruction, as all self-contradiction does, but embracing who we are and seeking to evolve should lead us into the world of so far unimaginable possibility.

Human beings are sentient, rational, emotional, sensible and individualistic. It is impossible to promote humanness without promoting individualism. One cannot think with a mind of another, only his or her own. One cannot be another at the same time. And since our birth we have sought for more and more. More knowledge, understanding, love, ability, power and pleasure; always expanding outwards like a flower reaching out to the sun's energy to achieve full bloom.

This could be called selfish or self interested, but it is not a bad thing. It is a human thing. It is what makes you who you are. Denying your yearnings seems self-repressive. On this site you (if willing) and I will seek to rediscover the full power and potential of being human, learning to liberate it and use it to improve our lives and the world.

In doing so we present a stark and bold contrast to the dehumanizing tendencies of the political party described in a legendary novel by George Orwell, "1984" (and to some extent exhibited in modern societies), which had people living in constant fear of each other, mutual repression and control, slow self destruction. Life was about dying slowly, not about living. And only death could bring them "freedom".

In protest of such a vision of humanity I have hacked Orwellian NewSpeak to declare the name: DoublePlusHuman.

The Name

NewSpeak is the official language of the Orwellian society described in "1984" whose purpose is to reduce the vocabulary rather than expand it in order to make it more difficult to express certain "dangerous" ideas. If anyone wanted to say that something is terrible or very bad, all they could say is "doubleplus ungood". "Plus" would be the equivalent of "more" and "doubleplus" would be the equivalent of "most". There was no word for "bad", but instead "ungood" was used. Thus "doubleplus ungood".

DoublePlusHuman is a hack that combines NewSpeak with, shall we say, FreedomSpeak. I doubt the word "human" was anywhere in their vocabulary. The sentiment behind the word "DoublePlusHuman" would probably be a capital offense. Thus this is my symbol of defiance to the dehumanization tendencies described in "1984", and as such any dehumanization tendencies that may exist in the real world.

The sentiment is that we are human and proud of it and we are going to grow and be free and change the world by example.
